University Branch Library
The University Branch Library is a joint-collaboration between the University of Houston System, Wharton County Junior College, and Fort Bend County. UHS students, faculty, and staff can use the Library's resources for their academic needs. For more information about the Library's services, operations, and hours, see the University Branch Library page on the Fort Bend County Libraries (FBCL) website. Students, faculty, and staff can also access library resources through their home university:
- UH Library support for Distance Education courses
- UHCL Library
- UHD Library online databases
- UHV Library
Academic Liaisons
Any reference librarian at the University Branch should be able to assist you. For specialized services, including library orientation/reserve materials, please contact one of the following liaisons:
- Librarian: Ashley Schmidt
- aschmidt@fortbend.lib.tx.us
- 281-633-5164
- Paraprofessional: Alexandra Almestica
- aalmestica@fortbend.lib.tx.us
- 281-633-5166
Orientations
Introductory sessions will be held on a regular basis each semester in the Library's Computer Lab open to all students. Instructional sessions (e.g. tailored orientation contents, evening hours, etc.) are available at a campus site upon request. Please contact the academia liaisons at least two weeks prior to the requested date if possible. Academic Liaisons will have log-in privileges to UHS library databases, since they will be helping UHS students.
Reserve Items and Library Collections
The liaisons can answer questions about reserve items in-house. To suggest the acquisition of titles specifically for the University Branch, visit the "Suggest a Title" page on the FBCL website.
Fort Bend County Library Card
Any Texas resident can apply for a free FBCL card. UHSL faculty, staff, and students will need a county library card to check out materials and use the computer, printing, and learning resources. Apply online for the library card.
